Overview

In looking to define ‘Smart Infrastructure’, case studies will be presented to show how innovative sensing technology could transform everyday infrastructure from passive structures into responsive, measurable assets which would enable clients, designers, and contractors alike to interrogate these smart assets and therefore better understand their behaviour and therefore feed this learning back into the way in which the industry models them during the design stage.

Spearker's Biography

Dr Mohammed Elshafie, Associate Professor, QD-SBG Chair

Dr Elshafie is currently undertaking research at Qatar University's College of Engineering in the acquisition and understanding of in-depth information about Civil Engineering infrastructure; using novel sensing techniques on real world assets combined with advanced modelling techniques, to strengthen the feedback loop between design, construction and operation.  He is also a Senior Lecturer in Construction Engineering at the Laing O’Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering & Technology at the University of Cambridge in the UK.
